What could be better than one bench?

*****

A pair of benches!

Last week I mentioned that my Carpenter was building a couple of benches for one of my clients, and here is how they turned out...

I love all of the knots and wood grain that shows through in them!

Gorgeous!

We came up with the design based off of how we wanted them to look and function...

I am extremely pleased with them and I was actually a bit sad to see them leave our garage! But they look great in my client's entryway/living room and I think they will be a wonderful asset when it comes to hosting the large gatherings that she puts on for her extended family!

Benches are a great option for portable, yet beautiful, seating when it comes to entertaining!

I used

Minwax Wood Finish

in Dark Walnut #2716

and

Minwax Wipe-On Poly

in Clear Satin

I cannot say enough good things about the Wipe-On Poly!
It was so easy to apply and I love the look that it created on the benches - a hand-rubbed finish was exactly what I was looking for!

We actually like them so much that we're considering making two more and using them in place of our 4 chairs at our kitchen table!

Stay tuned!

There may be more benches to come!

Donna over at Funky Junk Interiors
is spotlighting benches today!

She's added ours to the line up...

Thank you, Donna!

It's an honor to be featured on your blog!

The bench below sits in her own backyard. She decided against treating the wood as she was instructed to do and let the wood age naturally...

Don't you think it fits in perfectly with its surroundings?

Head on over to Funky Junk Interiors to see more benches!

And while you're there, take a look around...

Donna is full of great ideas and makes it all look so easy!

Remember the "Free Stuff" Headboard that I found on the side of the road?

My husband declared it a piece of junk and couldn't figure out why I would even bother wasting time on it...

But, persistence pays off!

Look at it now!

I love how it turned out!

My husband built onto it creating a very sturdy bench that spans nearly 5 & 1/2 feet!

Once he was done building, I painted it white and distressed the old and new wood. I stained the exposed new wood to make it look more uniform in the "worn" spots.

Then it got a couple coats of poly, so that it could sit outside on our deck...

I have wire bins that slide underneath holding beach towels for the kids...

I'm tempted to take a picture of it and leave it on the doorstep of the house that the headboard came from! Just so they can see that it didn't go to waste. You know, like that show Junk Brothers where the guys take "Free Stuff" junk, give it a makeover and then take it back the following night so the owner's can enjoy it again!

Except....I won't be giving this back.

I like it too much!

Once again, much love and thanks to my handy-carpenter-husband for making something great!

Do you know that once I got it painted he actually said "wow...it would have been a pretty headboard" to which I had to reply "See! I told you so!"

When will he learn?

So what about you? Find any good junk lately?
